I am a New York City-based barber, who believes a haircut can change a persons life... is that crazy?

I first got introduced into the world of barbering like most people, by getting my haircut. Elm and Oak, up the block from Getty Square and across the street from my dad’s grocery store was the location to my formal introduction. Growing up in Yonkers, New York I was fortunate enough to experience, at a young age, what it takes to make a great barbershop. Aside from great haircuts, which is an absolute must, there are intangibles that make the experience truly unforgettable. To me the atmosphere of great conversations and intriguing debates coupled with a sense of family was my gateway drug into what is now my profession.

When I first started cutting hair it was only about the money. How many haircuts can I squeeze in an hour to maximize my earnings. I was making good money and the haircuts were great but deep down I felt unfulfilled. My skills were growing exponentially at the same time that I started to resent my job. That is when cutting hair became a burden my equivalent of a 9 to 5. It wasn’t until I realized that my actions or more so my haircuts directly affected how someone will feel about themselves. After the veil was lifted I starting seeing barbering as an art form, a way to perfectly accessorize a person’s features and overall look. I became obsessed, until this day, in perfecting my craft and the hunger for more when it came to learning. I am consistently thinking of ways to improve thus never reaching a pinnacle but transcending into the commonly misused master barber title.
